INFLAMMATION | CAUSES, SIGN AND ITS TYPE

Inflammation is basically the body defense reaction that helps in eliminating the spread of injurious agents. And also help to remove the consequent tissues. In other words, it is a local response of living tissues to injury because of any agent. So it is the physiological response to tissue damage. It is generally accompanied by characteristics series of local changes.

It’s purpose is also protective:

i. Firstly To Isolate

ii. Then To Inactivate

iii. And finally To Remove Causative Agent & Damaged Tissue

CAUSES:-

  1. Physical agents for e.g.;
    • Heat
    • cold
    • Radiation
    • Mechanical injury
  2. Chemical agents for e.g.;
    • Organic i.e.:
      • Microbial toxins
      • Organic Poisons
    • Inorganic i.e.:
      • Acids
      • Alkalies
  3. Infective Agents for e.g.;
    • Bacteria
    • Viruses
    • Fungi
    • Protozoa
  4. Immunological Agents for e.g.;
    • Cell-mediated
    • Antigen-antibody reactions

SIGNS OF INFLAMMATION:-

It has four cardinal signs i.e.:-

  • Rubor (Redness)
  • Tumor (Swelling)
  • Calor (Heat)
  • Dolor (Pain)
  • Functio laesa (Loss Of Function)
symptoms of inflammation

TYPES OF INFLAMMATION:-

  1. ACUTE
  2. CHRONIC

ACUTE

Episodes of acute inflammation are as following:–

  1. of very Short Duration (i.e. from Days To Weeks)
  2. Therefore May Range Mild To Severe
  3. The Changes That Take Place In Tissues i.e.:-
    • Active Hyperaemia
    • Exudation
    • Migration of leukocytes

EFFECTS ARE AS FOLLOWING:-

  1. Phagocytosis
  2. Immune response
  3. Toxic Dilution
  4. Fibrin formation
  5. Tissue swelling
  6. Pain
  7. Systemic effects

CHRONIC

  • basically Less Severe
  • Lasts Longer (i.e. Weeks To Months To Years)
  • Also Destruction of more tissues
  • More Fibrous Tissues are therefore formed

Chronic may either be a complication of acute Or a primary condition of slow onset.

Causes of Chronic Inflammation:

  1. Chronic later the type acute
  2. Markedly Regular Attacks of Acute Inflammation
  3. Chronic Inflammation Starting  de Novo( i.e. Starting From Beginning)

Systemic effects mentioned the following:-

  1. Fever
  2. Anaemia
  3. Leucocytosis
  4. ESR
  5. Amyloidosis (Deposition Starch Like Protein)

Types of Chronic:-

  1. Chronic Non-Specific (By Cell Infiltration)
    • e.g. -Chronic Osteomyelitis, Lung Abscess
  2. Chronic Granulomatous (Formation Of Granulomas)
    • e.g.- Tuberculosis, Leprosy
