59 Chinese apps including TikTok banned

India on Monday banned 59 apps from China, , i.e. Chinese apps, including the most popular ones such as the short video platform TikTok, the UC browser, the ShareIt file sharing system, and CamScanner, which allow iOS and Android devices to be used such as photographic and textual images.

What is the legal basis for the making of India?

The ban is basically emphasized under section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 . (“Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource. “): ” Where the Central Government or any of its officers specially …… is satisfied that it is necessary or expedient so to do, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India.,

security of the State, friendly relations with foreign states or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offense..… by order, direct any agency of the Government or intermediary to block for access by the public or ……..for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource.”

The Ministry of Information and Technology said it had “received numerous complaints from various sources including several reports of abuse of other mobile apps … for stealing and sending unauthorized user data to servers located outside India”. Since this “depends on India’s sovereignty and integrity., it is a very important and urgent issue that requires urgent measures”, it said.

How will the ban on apps be implemented?

The notice is expected generally to be followed by instructions to Internet service providers to block these applications. Users may be soon aware of the message that access to apps is limited at the government’s request.

However, while this will impact applications such as TikTok and UC News that require a live feed to serve any purpose, users may still be able to continue using applications that do not require an Internet connection being used. But future downloads of these apps, such as CamScanner, may be restricted to the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

What will also be the impact of the ban?

Other restricted list apps are very popular in India, especially TikTok, which has over 100 million active users in the country. New social media platforms such as Helo and Likee, as well as the video chat app Bigo Live are very popular among non-English-speaking Indians. These users will also have to look for others.

Also, many of these apps have Indian creators, for many of them the only source of income was this. Most of these applications also have offices and staff in India, and a few thousand jobs may be at risk.
